PSV head coach Ronald Koeman has told 30-year-old striker <L CODE="C01">Patrick Kluivert</L> and 34-year-old defender <L CODE="C02">Michael Reiziger</L> this Thursday morning at training that they will not be offered a contract extension. The former internationals have been in Eindhoven for one and two seasons, respectively.
Kluivert, who had spells with Ajax, AC Milan, FC Barcelona, Newcastle United and Valencia, before he joined the newly-crowned Eredivisie champions last August on a one-year deal. Kluivert was often troubled by injuries this season, so he made just 16 appearances for PSV, but in spite of that he has made quite an impact by his powerful presence both on and off the pitch. Patrick Kluivert, who is the Dutch team’s all-time leading scorer with forty goals, recently claimed he was hoping to continue his playing career for another two years. Michael Reiziger started his career at Ajax. He spent time on loan at FC Volendam and FC Groningen, before he made moves to AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Middlesbrough. Reiziger spent two seasons at the Philips Stadium. Ronald Koeman has told Kluivert and Reiziger that they will be released at the end of the season, because they do not feature in his future plans.
