Dirk Marcellis has been suspended for two matches by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body for his tackle on Liverpool's Boudewijn Zenden in the Champions League quarter final 2nd leg. The 19-year-old defender, who was handed his Champions League debut against Liverpool, was given his marching orders by referee Rosetti in harsh circumstances after he had committed an unfortunate foul on former PSV player Boudewijn Zenden after 64 minutes. The Italian referee Roberto Rosetti mentioned in his report that Dirk Marcellis had produced a tackle on his opponent without having the intention of playing the ball. The Liverpool fans, though, who felt that Marcellis should have been given a yellow card at worst, gave Marcellis a warm and sympathetic ovation when he was unfairly sent off. The UEFA Control & Disciplinary Board, however, judged differently and have handed Marcellis a two-match ban.
