Ismail Aissati is ruled out of the European Under-21 Championship second Group A game against Portugal on Wednesday night, but hopes to have returned to fitness when the Dutch U-21 take on Belgium U-21 in the final group stage game on Saturday. Another PSV player, Otman Bakkal, replaces him as playmaker.
Olympics 2008 Ismail Aissati limped off the pitch on the stroke of half time during last Saturday's opening game against Israel. An MRI scan has revealed that no new damage had been done to his troubled knee. Netherllands coach Foppe de Haan is likely to rest him for the game against Portugal, while Aissati hopes to return to the team to face Belgium on Saturday. His team mate Otman Bakkal, who, just like Aissati, was loaned out to FC Twente from PSV last season, will replace him. If the Netherlands U-21 progress to the next phase, they will have ensured quailification for the 2008 Olympic Games in China. The Netherlands top group A with three points following the 1-0 victory against Israel, two more than than Belgium and Portugal who drew 0-0 in Sunday's other match.
