Andrés Guardado’s proposed switch to PSV fell through yesterday, after the 20-year-old Mexican midfielder decided to join the Spanish club Deportivo La Coruña. PSV’s Football Director Stan Valckx and General Manager Jan Reker give their views on Guardado’s decision. “We have made huge efforts, including large financial ones, in a bid to sign him”, explained Valckx. “We had already reached agreement with the player and were close to rounding off negotiations with his club, but PSV will not be able to compete with European clubs that have Deportivo La Coruña’s financial resources. Jan Reker added that several players have already come in during the summer transfer window. “We have closed deals with Lazovic, Fagner, Van der Leegte, Rajković, Reis, Roorda and Zonneveld. However, we have not yet sold any players yet, apart from DaMarcus Beasley.” Valckx: “We will always have to cope with these problems and need to be creative and inventive to cope with them.”
