Bayern Munich fans have named Mark van Bommel 'player of the 2006-2007 season'. The former PSV captain got about 25% of all votes, ahead of runners-up Roy Makaay and Mehmett Scholl. “This is just terrific”, said the Dutchman on the club's website.

Van Bommel claimed the award with over 22% of all votes, while Roy Makaay, who joined Feyenoord during the summer, got 21, 6%. “I can hardly find the correct words to describe my feelings. It is a great honour to get this award after my very first season with Bayer Munich. I want to be successful this season and I am particularly anxious to win the Bundesliga title.”
Van Bommel joined club in South Germany last season, after a one year spell at FC Barcelona, where he won the Champions League, and six seasons with PSV. The Bayern fans have taken Van Bommel to heart because of his fighting spirit and the spirited and passionate displays he has put in.
