PSV begin their Champions League group stage campaign on Wednesday night, as they welcome Russian side CSKA Moscow to the Philips Stadium and Jan Reker, who was appointed PSV General Manager on 1 July, expects CSKA Moscow to defend stubbornly and bravely. “We must be cautious not to lose possession and prevent them from starting lethal counter attacks”, says Reker.
“CSKA Moscow will not be any different from other Russian teams. When they play an away game, they will try to take you by surprise and start lighting-quick counter attacks. We should not lose possession and need to take our chances and finish clinically. The team should adapt a European style and play efficiently and maturely.”
Jan Reker is quite adamant the pressure is on the players, who realize they must take all three points by winning the group stage opening game. “We will take a big step forward, if we win our first group game”, says PSV's General Manager. Kick-off is at 20:45.
