PSV MEDIA - Timmy Simons will put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension, with an option for another year, which will keep him at the Philips Stadium until the summer of 2009. The PSV captain's current contract would expire in the summer of 2009. The Belgian international midfielder joined PSV in 2005, and won two successive Dutch titles.
30-year-old Simons is really happy to have extended his contract 'We ended the negotiations successfully, as we both wanted the deal to be closed', said Simons, who wears the captain's armband this season. Simons may retire from professional football, when his contract expires in 2011 or 2012. 'That's my intention, but you never know. Anyway this is a clear signal to my family, this fine club and of course to all loyal PSV fans', concluded Simons.
PSV technical director Stan Valckx was also delighted to have secured Simons' contract extension. 'He has played a prominent role ever since he joined us and he has become one of the leaders on the pitch. And he is also an exemplary professional football player who makes his mark both on and off the pitch', said Valckx.
