Six PSV players were on international action on Wednesday night. Two of them watched on from the substitutes' bench and two youth players featured in matches played on Tuesday. It was another night of mixed fortunes for the PSV players away on international duty. Lazovic enjoyed the sweet success of an empathic victory, whereas Méndez tasted a heavy defeat.
PSV captain Timmy Simons was handed a start for Belgium, whose qualification hopes had already been ended. The Red Devils earned a 3-0 victory against Armenia in Brussels, thanks to three second-half goals. Simons played the full ninety minutes. lso on Euro qualification duty was Danko Lazovic who was brought on as a substitute twenty minutes from time in Serbia's emphatic 6-1 away victory in Baku in Azerbaijan. Lazovic ended the rout, scoring the sixth goal of the night after 84 minutes. Danny Koevermans watched on from the substitutes' bench as the Netherlands earned a 2-0 victory against Slovenia at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven. The Dutch will book a place in next summer's finals if they beat Luxembourg next month. Kenneth Perez did not feature in Denmark's hard-fought 3-1 victory against Latvia in Copenhagen.
Farfán, Méndez, Salcido
The Word Cup 2010 campaign has already started on South America. Jefferson Farfán played the full ninety minutes, but could not prevent Peru from slipping to a 2-0 defeat in Chili. Edison Méndez also tasted defeat, after Ecuador were hammered 5-0 by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. The final of the South American PSV trio to suffer defeat was Carlos Salcido , after Mexico were beaten 3-2 by Guatemala in a friendly played in Los Angeles.
Väyrynen, Marcellis, Bakkal, Hiddink
Several national teams played friendlies on Wednesday night. Mika Väyrynen featured for 84 minutes as Finland and Spain settled for a goalless draw in Helsinki. Bakkal was on target in the Dutch Olympic team's 4-0 battering of Scotland on Tuesday night. Marcellis also played the full ninety minutes. The ten PSV internationals are expected to report for training at De Herdgang training centre today or tomorrow to prepare for Saturday's domestic league encounter with VVV-Venlo at the Philips Stadium, with a 19:30 kick off, as always.
One final score is definitely worth mentioning: Russia coach Guus Hiddink guided his team to a stunning 2-1 win over England. Russia came from behind to pull off a win in an entertaining and spectacular clash in Moscow. England's hopes of qualification for Euro 2008 have been seriously dented, but the former PSV coach will live up to his formidable.
