Jan Wouters conducted the weekly media briefing on Friday afternoon. The caretaker coach answered questions about the upcoming fixtures and coaching staff issues. Wouters emphasized he will shift his focus entirely toward next week's games.
Wouters would not mind taking charge at PSV for half a year. 'A number of names are being linked with the managerial vacancy, but, to be honest, I am not too preoccupied with the matter at the moment. I rather focus on the important games against Heerenveen, Fenerbahçe and AZ.'
Wouters does not face big selection worries ahead of Saturday's clash with sc Heerenveen. 'Mike Zonneveld returns to the squad and will make the trip to Heerenveen, but Ibrahim Afellay, who is recovering from a broken toe, is not available. He hopes to make his comeback in Sunday week's match against AZ, but the Champions League group stage match against Fenerbahçe comes too soon. He will face a fitness test on Monday, provided he has joined the squad for training. It's up to himself. I keep all options open.'
Jonathan, Rajkovic, Zeefuik, Väyrynen, De Jong, Da Costa and Culina are also ruled out of Saturday's game. 'Culina has resumed running and all the other lads are fit.
