Netherlands Under-21 maintained their 100 per cent record, after claiming their fourth successive win in their 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign. The defending champions, with PSV player Dirk Marcellis in the heart of defence, earned a 1-0 victory against Macedonia Under-21 in Nijmegen on Friday night, thanks to a first-half goal by Evander Sno.

The home team dominated proceedings from start to finish and the wingers Roy Beerens and Royston Drenthe delivered a great many sharp crosses from the flanks, but Sno, the physically strong Celtic front man, lacked cutting edge. Luck was on Sno's side, though, when he scored the only goal of the night on the half-hour mark. Gianni Zuiverloon set up the target man who controlled the ball well before scoring on the turn. His shot was well-blocked, but took a deflection, leaving the Macedonian goalkeeper without a chance. Minutes before goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen had pulled off a crucial save when Macedonia produced goal threat from a rare counter attack.
Netherlands Under-21, having amassed all twelve points, are five points clear of Norway at the top of Group 5, with Macedonia lying third with five points. Switzerland have collected four points from three games and Estonia, who have not won any points yet, are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.
