Apart from Danny Koevermans, whose cracking winning goal sent the Netherlands to the Euro 2008 finals, two more PSV players made appearances for their national teams on Saturday. Mika Väyrynen was brought on as a substitute in the 66th minute as Finland enjoyed a 2-1 victory against Azerbaijan, while Edison Méndez' Ecuador were thumped 5-1 by Paraguay.

But Serbia striker Danko Lazovic was undoubtedly the unluckiest person. Snow started to fall in Belgrade an hour before Saturday's qualifying game against Kazakhstan was scheduled to kick off. A pitch inspection was conducted on Sunday morning and with 14cm of snow lying on the playing surface, the match was again postponed. The UEFA have now scheduled the fixture for Saturday 24 November, so Lazovic will miss PSV's away game against Excelsior in Rotterdam. Serbia are due to face Poland in their next qualifying game, also in Belgrade, on Wednesday, with the rearranged Kazakhstan game to follow.
In the other Group A qualifying match Finland v Azerbaijan, Mika Väyrynen was brought on as a substitute in the 66th minute. The home team was then trailing 1-0, but Mikael Forssell and substitute Shefki Kuqi scored late goals, handing the Fins a lifeline in their efforts to seal a place in the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland. Finland will make a trip to Porto on Wednesday to face second-placed Portugal in the final and all-deciding qualifying game. Portugal, who have collected three more points than Finland, need only a point from their final game at home to Finland on Wednesday.
Serbia retain a slender chance of qualifying for the Euro 2008, provided they win their last two qualifying games.

Edison Méndez's Ecuador were thrashed for the second time in succession. They had already been hammered 5-0 by Brazil and after they had been battered 5-1 by Paraguay, Ecuador coach Luis Fernando Suarez decided to step down as a result of the miserable start to the World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign. Peru will play host to Brazil on Sunday in a World Cup 2010 qualifying game, before they make a trip to Ecuador four days later.
