PSV caretaker coach Jan Wouters told media representatives at the post-match conference that PSV had deserved to win, but admitted that the score may very well have been flattering. 'In the end we earned an emphatic 4-1 win, but we did not produce a sparkling performance.' FC Utrecht assistant coach John van Loen thought his team had performed below par.

'We really intended to pull off something of a shock here, but sadly enough several players did not play to their maximum in the first half', analysed John van Loen, who also rightly pointed to a wretched goalkeeping error. 'And we conceded some silly goals from a counter attack and individual mistakes.'
'We burst out of the blocks after the interval and when we had leveled in the first minute, I thought we could maybe snatch a victory. But after twenty minutes PSV regained the lead and eventually they scored two more goals from a counter attack and a free kick. I am disappointed as I feel we had an opportunity to win the game.'

Jan Wouters partly agreed with his colleague's match analysis. 'We were rattled for about ten minutes after FC Utrecht had scored an equaliser, but in the end we earned an emphatic 4-1 win without producing a sparkling performance, though. PSV deserved to win, but the score may very well have been flattering.' Perez had silenced his critics with a match-winning performance and Wouters admitted that the Dane, who scored a double, deserves a place in the starting line-up. Wouters would have handed a start to Ismail Aissati, but the young midfielder told his coach he would rather start on the bench after he was informed that his sister had been involved in a car accident. That's why Wouters decided to play Perez and the Dane soon rewarded his coach's confidence with a commanding display.
