Ghana reached the Africa Cup of Nations quarter finals following a 2-0 victory against Morocco in their final Group A game at the Ohene Djan Stadiim in Accra on Monday night. Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari netted first-half goals to wrap up the third group stage win for Ghana. PSV defender Eric Addo played the full 90 minutes.
Ghana scored the opener in the 24th minute, when Muntari chipped a free kick over the wall, with Essien beginning a run down the right into the box. The Chelsea midfielder superbly swept the ball into the back of the net with a first-time shot. The hosts doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time, when Muntari slotted the ball past Moroccan goalkeeper Lamyaghri. Guinea also reached the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw with Namibia in the other Group A game. Ghana, the top team in Group A, will play their quarter final match in Accra on 3 February. They will meet the Group B runners-up, Ivory Coast, Mali or Nigeria. Mali, who are currently second, with four points from two games, will meet Ivory Coast, with Drogba, Kalou and Arouna Koné, who have won both of their two group stage matches.
