PSV head coach Sef Vergoossen told media representatives at the weekly briefing on Friday afternoon that his side realise Sunday's clash with Vitesse will be a high-pressure game, but added the players will be confident going into it. 'We are keen to record a win. We still have things in our own hands, whereas Ajax are dependent on our result. I believe in the mental strength of my team and have total faith in my players', Vergoossen told PSV TV Online.
Many reporters were at De Herdgang training complex, surrounding the players and pressing them for a quote. The players, though, remained rather tight-lipped and rather focused on the training session and the finale to the Eredivisie season on Sunday.
'We want to prove we have what it takes to handle the pressure', said Vergoossen. 'We have shown before this season that we know how to cope with pressure. We have handled some difficult times and I really wonder why the pressure should be on us. We still have things in our own hands, whereas Ajax are dependent on our result.' Several articles have been published in national newspapers, suggesting that PSV feel the pressure piling up, but Vergoossen begged to differ. 'I think we have a well-balanced and mature squad. '
