With a squad depleted by injuries and players away on international duty, PSV head coach Huub Stevens took charge of the Monday morning training session, the first since PSV's return from Spain. PSV will round off their pre-season campaign with a friendly on Tuesday before the reigning champions take on Cup holders Feyenoord in the Johan Cruijff Shield contest, the traditional curtain-raiser to the domestic season. Several players are away on international duty.
Nordin Amrabat
PSV trained on the pitch of the Philips Stadium at Saturday's annual Fan Day. The squad, who have started their sixth week of pre-season training, will train at De Herdgang this week. The internationals, including the Mexicans Salcido and Maza, captain Timmy Simons, Ibrahim Afellay, Balázs Dzsudzsák and Mika Väyrynen, have jetted off on international duty with their respective national squads. Nordin Amrabat, who was on stand-by to fly to Peking to join the Dutch Olympic team, is in Eindhoven, as Holland were knocked out of the tournament by Argentina, after being beaten 2-1 after extra-time. He told PSV TV that he was not too disappointed that he would not go to Beijing after all, but felt sorry for the lads who had not advanced to the semi-finals.
Feyenoord
The players trained for 75 minutes, before they went back to the dressing rooms. Jan Kromkamp, who steps up his recovery from a knee injury, worked in the gym. The first-team squad will train at de Herdgang on Tuesday. The players have the Wednesday off before they start preparing for Saturday's clash with Feyenoord.
