The third round draw for the KNVB Cup was made by Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen at the Amsterdam ArenA on Thursday night. PSV are paired with AZ. The third round match will take place at the DSB Stadium in Alkmaar on 11, 12 or 13 November.
Four consecutive away fixtures
PSV and AZ met five times before in the KNVB Cup tournament, with PSV advancing to the next round on three occasions. PSV last faced AZ in the semi-finals at the Philips Stadium in the 2005/06 season. At full time, the score was still 0-0, but two extra-time goals from Timmy Simons and Jefferson Farfán secured a win for PSV. Guus Hiddink's team then slipped to defeat against Ajax in the Cup final. PSV face a hectic schedule as they will play four consecutive away games. They will first travel to the south of France to meet Olympique Marseille, before they take on N.E.C. in Nijmegen, AZ in Alkmaar and Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA. The KNVB will announce a definite date later today.
