Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has included 20-year-old PSV defender Dirk Marcellis in his 22-man squad for the forthcoming World Cup 2010 qualifying games against Iceland (11 October) and Norway (15 October). Edwin van der Sar has made a surprise return to the Holland squad.
Van der Sar returns to the Holland squad
Marcellis had been named in the squad for the first time. The 20-year-old centre back established himself as a first-team regular last season and has put in impressive displays ever since. Van Marwijk has called up Marcellis to replace Khalid Boulahrouz. PSV midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has again been called up to the squad, along with former PSV stars André Ooijer, Mark van Bommel, Arjen Robben and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. With keeper Maarten Stekelenburg injured, Van der Sar, who called time on his international career after the Euro 2008, makes a surprise return to the Holland squad.
