Midfielder Ibrahim Afellay is doubtful for Saturday's domestic clash with De Graafschap, according to PSV coach Huub Stevens, who previewed the game at a press briefing on Friday afternoon, ahead of a training session behind closed doors. PSV entertain De Graafschap as they play their third game in eight days' time.
'Stubborn Graafschap
PSV coach Huub Stevens realises that his players have been taught a lesson in quality football by Liverpool. 'Liverpool are very clinical with their finishing. They capitalised on some defensive errors. A player may make mistakes, as long as he learns from them', said Stevens. 'We knew we were handed a tough task as the Champions League groups were drawn and we have to accept that things like that may take place', said Stevens, when asked to comment on his team's second straight defeat in the Champions League. 'We have analysed the game and talked things over and will now focus on the next game.' Stevens made a comparison between last week's opponents and De Graafschap. 'They have a different style of play from FC Volendam, who like to keep the ball low, showing their technical skills. De Graafschap have more cutting edge up front and their defence is stubborn.'
Afellay doubtful
Stevens has little time left to prepare his team for their third game in just eight days' time. Ibrahim Afellay, who missed PSV's last two games due to a toe injury, is doubtful for Saturday. 'We'll just have to wait and see. He has been training separately the past few days under the supervision of fitness coach Luc van Agt. We hope he will join the squad for full training this afternoon', said Stevens. 'He may start on Saturday, provided he comes through the Friday training session unscathed.' A number of players picked up knocks in the 3-1 defeat at Liverpool. 'Méndez suffers a recurrence of his old upper leg injury and Bréchet is trying to shake off a heel problem. They are also doubtful for Saturday.' Danko Lazovic, who was ill on Wednesday, feels better and is match fit again. The injury that Stijn Wuytens sustained is less serious than originally feared. PSV will train behind closed doors at De Herdgang training complex on Friday afternoon, ahead of Saturday's game against De Graafschap, with a 7.45pm kick off.
