PSV will take on leaders Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday with a 12:30 kick-off. Both sides suffered a Cup defeat on Wednesday. Ajax were knocked out of the KNVB Cup by Volendam and PSV suffered defeat at AZ. PSV managed to keep four clean sheets in their last four matches in Amsterdam, winning three games.
Injuries
The Amsterdam outfit are ravaged by injuries ahead of Sunday's Eredivisie clash against PSV. Manager Marco van Basten is without a host of first-team regulars including Dario Cvitanich, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Jeffrey Sarpong, former PSV midfielder Ismail Aissati and Maarten Stekelenburg, while Eyong Enoh, Miralem Sulejmani, Urby Emanuelson, Oleguer and Thomas Vermaelen are still question marks. Nordin Amrabat and Jan Kromkamp are certainly out of Sunday's match, while Otman Bakkal, Jérémie Bréchet and Ibrahim Afellay are doubtful for PSV. Both teams were knocked out of the KNVB Cup on Wednesday. PSV suffered a 1-0 defeat in extra time against AZ in Alkmaar and bottom-of-the-table FC Volendam pulled off a great upset, with a stunning 1-0 home victory against Ajax.
A good run at home
Ajax, meanwhile, are on a good run at home. They have extended their unbeaten home run to sixteen games, including eleven Eredivisie games, enjoying fifteen victories. PSV were the last team to inflict defeat on Ajax at the ArenA. PSV recorded a 2-0 defeat in last season's corresponding fixture on 30 January 2008, thanks to goals Balázs Dzsudzsák and Otman Bakkal. Last season's reverse encounter at the Philips Stadium ended in a goalless draw. PSV's away form has been poor so far. They have slipped to defeat in six of their nine official away games this season. They did not score a single goal in their last three defeats at Olympique Marseille, N.E.C. and AZ, respectively.
Ajax hope to end goal drought
Ajax and PSV have met 52 times in Amsterdam before. Ajax claimed 26 victories, and PSV enjoyed 19 wins. PSV have been doing well at the Amsterdam ArenA the past four seasons. They recorded three wins, (0-4, 0-2 and 0-1) and settled for a 0-0 draw once. Ajax hope to end their 389- minute goal drought at home against PSV.
