Swiss referee Massimo Busacca will be in charge of the UEFA Champions League game between Atlético Madrid and PSV on Wednesday. The 39-year-old from Bellizona has been appointed to referee Wednesday's game that will be played in the virtually empty Vicente Calderón stadium.
Champions League and UEFA Cup
Busacca is a UEFA Champions League regular. He refereed PSV's goalless draw with Liverpool in Eindhoven in the 2006/07 campaign, when PSV were knocked out of the tournament after suffering defeat at the hands of again Liverpool in the quarter finals. Busacca started his career as a referee in 1990 and received a FIFA badge nearly ten years ago. Another high level game for Busacca was the UEFA Cup match between Auxerre and PSV on 11 March 2004. PSV were a goal down but salvaged one point as Theo Lucius scored a stunning equaliser in the closing stages. PSV recorded a 3-0 win in the return leg in Eindhoven. Massimo Busacca will be assisted in Madrid by his countrymen Matthias Arnet and Francesco Buragina. Carlo Bertolini, also from Switzerland, will act as fourth official. Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game between Atlético Madrid and PSV kicks off at 8.45pm.
