PSV coach Huub Stevens said at the post-match press conference that, in spite of the 3-1 loss, his players could leave the field with their heads held high. 'We'll take the positives from this performance. We started nervously but came back into the game and took a deserved lead.'
'Liverpool showed more maturity'
'Just when we thought we would be one goal up at half time, they scored the equaliser on the stroke of half time, which should not happen at this level. And we conceded two more goals after the break. Yet I think my players could leave the field with their heads held high.' Stevens briefly commented on the timing of Liverpool's equaliser. 'We were dealt a severe blow when we conceded a goal just before half time. We were enjoying possession of the ball and should have played for time. Liverpool showed more maturity. Despite the 3-1 loss, we are still confident we can do well in the domestic league'. Stevens explained why he had not informed his players of the score in the other Group D fixture in Marseille. Things looked to be going our way, but we didn't think it was necessary to inform the players.'
Rafa Benitez was pleased with his team's performance
Rafa Benitez was pleased that Liverpool qualified as group winners for the last 16 of the Champions League with as many as fourteen points from six matches. 'We wanted to play the second leg of the next round at Anfield and I am happy we have reached our aim. It was positive to see some young lads come on to make their debuts. We played very well as a team and worked hard. I am a happy man', said Benitez. 'I was disappointed we conceded a goal because I think it wasn't a corner. But we were well-organised and scored two second half goals to wrap up the points.'
