PSV coach Huub Stevens was disappointed PSV had not enjoyed victory in their last match in 2008. 'We helped FC Twente with our poor second half', said Stevens, who was happy with his team's first-half performance. 'The standings don't lie but we will carry on.'
'Lost battle in midfield'
'We put in a fine fist-half display', said Stevens at the post-match conference in the Philips Stadium press room. 'We played a solid defence and were compact as a team, but we helped FC Twente with our poor second half. We lost the battle in midfield, where we did not win the ball back a lot. It's disappointing not to have won, but I must admit FC Twente are a quality side.' Stevens was also disappointed that his team had not been able to reduce the gap with the leaders. 'The standings don't lie. We are obviously disappointed to be trailing by many points. But we will carry on. We can't stop playing football right now, can we?' The PSV coach explained why he had not called up the Mexican defender Salcido. 'He is still troubled by a groin problem and we wanted to field only fit players.'
Steve McClaren
'It was a game of two halves', said FC Twente manager Steve McClaren. 'In the first half, it took a while to get going. We lacked maturity in the first period, but improved after the break. I am happy with our second-half display. We took control, created chances and could even have won the game. We've ended the year on a high and I think we have more reason to be happy with the share of the spoils than PSV. It was a big game for us. We faced a real test and I think we have passed.'
