Clubs impressed by Peace Cup organization (PSV.nl)

The clubs that take part in the Peace Cup tournament are very much impressed by the excellent organization of the tournament, according to PSV Press Officer Pedro Salazar Hewitt, who represented PSV in South Korea at the official start.Salazar Hewitt travelled to South Korea to attend the official press conference and consult with the other participating clubs. PSV were winners of the 2003 tournament and will try to defend their title next summer again. The other European teams that participate are Tottenham Hotspur, Olympique Lyon and Real Sociedad. The Argentine top side Boca Juniors and Once Caldas from Colombia are the South American participants. Sundowns FC from South Africa and Seongnam Ilhwa from South Korea complete the line-up of participating teams.Thirteen fixtures are scheduled on ten days and the games will be played in World Cup 2002 stadiums. "Let?s see to it together that the Peace Cup will be a great football party and the message to promote and peace will be spread all over the world", said Chung-hwan Kwak, Chairman of the Organization during the press conference. Representatives of all participating teams were present, just like football officials from South Korea and some 150 journalists. The winners of the event will be awarded US$2 million, while the runners-up will receive $500,000.On his return Salazar Hewitt announced his admiration for the organization. " They use the World Cup scenario and everything is organized to perfection. The teams that did not compete in the first edition were very much impressed by the organizational skills of the South Koreans. There was huge media interest. Football in South Korea is booming and by organizing tournaments like this they will attempt to be even more successful." Salazar Hewitt also stated that the organization intend to organize the Peace Cup tournament outside South Korea as well.De Peace Cup tournament is scheduled to be held from 15-24 July 2005.
