PSV MEDIA - André Ooijer was handed his PSV shirt by club icon Willy van der Kuylen at a press conference on Tuesday. PSV's first summer signing will get the No 23 shirt. Ooijer is thrilled to return to PSV and is looking forward to working with head coach Fred Rutten.
'Look forward to working with Rutten'
'André Ooijer is an important player for PSV. He will add tremendous value to the team', said General Manager Jan Reker at the official presentation to the press in the Philips Stadium. Ooijer is looking forward to working with Fred Rutten. 'We met a number of seasons ago when Rutten was an assistant coach at PSV. I am very excited about this opportunity and I am glad we will now continue to work together', said Ooijer at the PSV press centre on Tuesday.
'Perfect moment'
'When Jan Reker got in touch with me, I felt this was the perfect moment to return to Eindhoven. I have gained a lot of experience that I intend to put across to my younger team mates. I needn't think twice and decided to return home. I hope to be an influential player, also in the dressing room.' When asked if he was the first of a number of former players to rejoin PSV, Ooijer said he hoped his transfer would persuade some players to make a similar move. Ooijer, who is a versatile defender, hopes to be played as a centre back, but realises he can play several positions for PSV. 'I'm thrilled to be back home', concluded Ooijer.
