As part of the preparations for the Champions league knock out phase second leg, away against AS Monaco on Wednesday night, the PSV first team squad trained on the pitch of the Eindhoven Philips Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Now that the domestic league game against FC Groningen has been called off due to the wintry circumstances and the bad state of the pitch, the players can now focus on the crucial Champions league tie.Guus Hiddink had a near full strength squad at his disposal. John de Jong stayed inside, as he is still troubled by a bruised toe. The other players had a 90 minute-training session in the wintry cold. The stadium pitch was in perfect condition. The players did, among other things, some ’piggy in the middle’ games and played a game of football. Some players, among whom Jefferson Farfán en Phillip Cocu, left the pitch before the end of the training, and went inside to carry on in the gym.No training session is scheduled on Sunday; the players will be back at work on Monday. The squad and officials will take off for Monaco on Tuesday. PSV do not see it as a problem that the FC Groningen game has been postponed. They now do not have to make a long trip by coach, play on a bad pitch and will have a lot of power in their engine left. The team have an excellent opportunity to prepare for the return leg against the Monegasques. The opponent of PSV has not managed to return to winning ways: AS Monaco had to settle for a goalless draw against Metz. They are still fourth in the Ligue.1.
