PSV have added lustre to the championship league game by claiming an emphatic 4-1 win over struggling De Graafschap. The visitors never threatened in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium and when the final whistle had gone the party could start.Straight after the players will be honoured on the pitch. PSV clinched the Dutch title two weeks ago, but all celebrations and festivities have been delayed in view of the preparations for the Champions League games against AC Milan.Sparring partnersPSV fielded a side in which quite a few changes had been brought about. Young-Pyo Lee and Jefferson Farfán are in their native countries; Wilfred Bouma was rested and started on the bench. André Ooijer was ruled out because he has picked up an injury. So a defence was fielded in which Theo Lucius, Alex, Phillip Cocu and Kasper Bøgelund were given a place. The latter was deployed as full left back. Robert was played as striker up front and youngster Ibrahim Afellay was also allowed to show his skills.De Graafschap were obedient sparring partners in Eindhoven. PSV never had to dig deep, but were motivated and put up an entertaining display all the same.Jan Vennegoor of HesselinkThe atmosphere in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium was quite relaxed on a fine Sunday afternoon; it was party time. The sun sometimes appeared and the crowd was looking forward to the championship parties and celebrations in the town centre later on the dayPSV took the lead from their very first move: Robert found club top scorer Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who superbly headed home past keeper Van Fessem, like he does so often at training; 1-0. ‘VOH’ took his season’s tally to seventeen by scoring the opener. Phillip CocuPSV doubled their advantage on ten minutes. Ji-Sung Park fired straight at Van Fessem and the ball was not cleared. It fell to Vennegoor of Hesselink and he scored another headed goal. Just two minutes later it was bingo once again. Park failed to connect with a cross, but Phillip Cocu was in the right place to net the third goal. The fans were treated to plenty of goals, which may have taken away the pain of the cruel elimination from the Champions league.Standing ovationTen minutes after the break PSV continued to do what they had started in the first period. Johann Vogel scored his annual goal when, left completely unmarked, he blasted home a Mark van Bommel cross in one time. Guus Hiddink then brought on three new players in a short spell. Ji-Sung Park and Robert were taken off and Remco van der Schaaf and Gerald Sibon left the bench to replace them. Half an hour from final time standby-keeper Edwin Zoetebier came on to take over from Gomes, who left the pitch to a standing ovation.PSV then called it a day. De Graafschap had already been resigned by slipping to defeat, when substitute Loic Loval scored a consolation five minutes from final time. And then it was high time to start the celebrations.
