Young PSV gave a starting place to keeper Bas Roorda as they took on De Graafschap on Monday night. Jonathan Reis was outstanding in the second half, while the hosts were reduced to ten men after Kay Velda had been sent off. The visitors from Doetinchem snatched a draw deep into injury time at De Herdgang in Eindhoven: 2-2.
Substitute Jonathan
Both sides fielded experienced goalkeepers. PSV gave a starting place to keeper Bas Roorda, while Stefan Postma was the man between the posts at the other end. The two teams created many chances in their ninth game of the season bur did not score any goals in the first period. Jonathan Reis replaced Lars Hutten after the break and the substitution paid off almost immediately. Manco was put clear but unselfishly set up the Brazilian who slotted home the opener. PSV were reduced to ten men a few minutes later when Kay Velda was dismissed for a second bookable offence. The visitors drew level on the hour mark. Substitute Luuk de Jong chested a long ball and struck a powerful shot that beat Roorda at the near post.
Late equaliser
As the dense fog intensified, a yellow ball was introduced, which seemed to bring good luck charm to PSV. Five minutes from time, Manco was fouled in the penalty area. The referee pointed to the spot and Jonathan flawlessly converted the penalty: 2-1. But the sting was in the tail as the visitors from Doetinchem snatched a late equaliser. Luuk de Jong struck deep into injury time, heading the ball past Roorda, as De Graafschap claimed a last-gasp 2-2 draw to deny PSV at De Herdgang. Although they dropped two points, Young PSV have climbed to fifth place. Anton Janssen's team will be next in action on Monday 10 November, when they make a trip to Amsterdam to face Young Ajax, who lie currently fourth in the table.
Young PSV line-up
