The German press wrote in high terms about the memorial game between the Hallescher FC and PSV (0-3). "We will never forget the fraternization of the memorial game in Halle. It was a moving, eventful night." Bild, the big newspaper, announced on its front page: Eindhoven, danke für diese Gala. Everybody was glad at the end of the evening, concluded Bild. The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung also published a great number of articles, among other issues, on 81-year-old Otto Hoffmann, the father of Wolfgang Hoffmann who had died in the fire. "It was an eventful night", said the guest of honour. The fans honoured the former legendary players; all these players were presented a shirt by Hiddink; goalkeeper Matthias Küfner, who celebrated his birthday on Friday by keeping a clean sheet in the first period (he was taken off during half time): the German press singled out exclusively positive issues.
