<L CODE="C01">Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa</L> was on top of the ‘Footballer of the Year” competition for a long period in the 2006-2007 campaign, but after he had been sidelined with a hamstring injury for several weeks, he eventually won the Bronze Shoe Award in the competition, organized by de Telegraaf, a mayor Dutch national newspaper. PSV captain <L CODE="C02">Phillip Cocu</L> was winner of the Silver Shoe.
“When I went to Brazil to rehabilitate, I realised I would forfeit my rights to winning the award. That’s why I am delighted having won the Bronze Shoe”, said the sturdy Brazilian defender. Phillip Cocu has won the Silver Shoe, just like he did last season. “I am really proud I have won the prestigious award for the second season in a row.”
Afonso Alves, the 26-year-old Brazilian striker at sc Heerenveen, is the ‘Footballer of the Year award’ winner of the 2006-2007 competition.
As many as five PSV players are in this season’s top ten. Gomes finished fourth, while Timmy Simons came fifth, alongside with Tim de Cler and Rob Wielaert.
