The PSV players are enjoying a well-deserved Christmas holiday, but they will be back at work at the beginning of January. The PSV squad will hold a mid-winter break training camp in Abu Dhabi, which is situated in the Middle-East at a 6,5 hour flight from Amsterdam. The distance to Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arabic Emirates, is some 5, 000 kilometers. Abu Dhabi, one of the most modern cities in the world, is the largest of the seven emirates. There is plenty of sun, sea and beaches in the immensely rich small oil state. And there are many beautiful shopping malls, excellent hotels and many large garden and parks. People who suspect that the surroundings resemble a large sandpit are absolutely wrong: some 120 million trees have been planted in the Abu Dhabi emirate alone. Five Dutch coaches are at work in Abu Dhabi. Rob Baan, Dwight Lodeweges, Albert Stuivenberg, Sef Vergoossen and André Wetzel work and live in the emirate. Fourteen football teams compete for the national title. And they also take part in two cup competitions: the Federations Cup, a tournament that is held when the national team takes part in the Gulf Cup, and the Presidents Cup, an official cup competition. The Dutch trainers look upon Abu Dhabi as 'a perfectly safe country with a pleasant atmosphere and an excellent social climate, where there is no aggression'.PSV will hold their training camp from 8 January until 15 January.
