Rob van Gijzel, the mayor of Eindhoven, came to De Herdgang on Wednesday afternoon to give the PSV players that will compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics a rousing send-off. Van Gijzel also said words of comfort to Nordin Amrabat and Ismail Aissati who did not make the final cut of the Dutch Olympic football team.
Van Gijzel: 'Awfully proud'
'I am awfully proud that so many PSV players will compete at the Olympic Games', said Van Gijzel. Nordin Amrabat is put on the reserve list, but Aissati is not likely to feature in Beijing. The mayor of Eindhoven said words of comfort to both players. 'I'm sure your time will come eventually.' All five players, so including Otman Bakkal, Dirk Marcellis and Erik Pieters, were given a small present by Van Gijzel who wished Bakkal, Marcellis and Pieters all the best with the Dutch Olympic team at the Games and Amrabat and Aissati with PSV. 'I am obviously a fan of the Dutch football team, but I am even more a devoted PSV supporter', concluded Van Gijzel.
