Ismail Aissati has won the 'young sports talent of the year' award of the town of Utrecht. The young PSV midfielder was presented with the trophy at a gala night in a Utrecht theatre on Wednesday evening. Ibrahim AfellayAissati was one of three nominees in the category Sports talent of the year. The presentation was organized by the town of Utrecht in close cooperation with the Utrecht Sports Association. Inhabitants of Utrecht were given an opportunity to vote their favourite athlete and an independent advisory committee, acting on these votes, had published a report on the proposals to Mayor and Aldermen of the town of Utrecht. Ismail Aissati had come to the theatre together with his good friend Ibrahim Afellay. He made a short speech, in which he thanked his big brother and role model. Just like Aissati, Afellay lives in Utrecht and both players made a move from the Utrecht based amateur side Elinkwijk to PSV Eindhoven. Seventeen-year-old Ismail Aissati, who recently extended his contract with PSV until the summer of 2009, has put in some fine performance in the domestic league and he is also the youngest Dutch player ever to make an appearance during a Champions League game.
