Jefferson Farfán scored two goals on either side of the break in the Utrecht Galgenwaard Stadium on Wednesday night and thus made sure of a 1-2 win over FC Utrecht. By this narrow win PSV stay on top of the Dutch league and their lead over Feyenoord, who enjoyed a late gasp 1-2 win over N.E.C., is still three points. EfficientFarfán had a tough evening against Roda JC last weekend, but tonight the Peruvian striker was very effective and proved to be a clinical finisher, like in so many previous games this season. He scored his thirteenth ands fourteenth goals of the season, so that PSV succeeded in getting round stubborn FC Utrecht. The visitors even looked set to be the winners of the night, but rivals Feyenoord came from one goal down in Nijmegen and scored two goals to secure a dramatic 1-2 win in the final stages. FC Utrecht suffered the second defeat in a row and they last collected a home win in November 2005. PSV maintained an unbeaten run of eight league games in succession.Jefferson FarfánPSV did not earn their first chance until twenty minutes, but they took it immediately. Ooijer found Farfán in the box and the Peruvian blasted home the opening goal from the turn. He took his tally to thirteen goals. Utrecht made it an equally contested game, but the team coached by Foeke Booy did not really threaten before the break. PSV head coach Guus Hiddink had fielded two forwards, Farfán and Beasley, and the latter created the second first half chance for PSV. He unleashed a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar. Ramzi equalizerFC Utrecht were on level terms soon after the restart. Former PSV player Ramzi was in the right place to pounce on a rebound, when the PSV defenders failed to clear a corner from the goalmouth; 1-1. It was suddenly an open game and the hosts were given new hope. PSV realized they had to up a gear and both sides had their moments. FC Utrecht goalkeeper Grandel did well to Farfán and Beasley who linked well. FC Utrecht centre back Joost Broerse threatened twice, but Gomes was alert on both occasions. Farfán doubleHiddink brought on Vennegoor of Hesselink who replaced Aissati and when Alex limped off the pitch, Väyrynen came on and Simons played in the position of centre back. PSV now played three forwards up front. Farfán, again, capitalized on the second opportunity, which he got twelve minutes from final time. Väyrynen delivered a long low pass; Vennegoor of Hesselink tapped the ball through and Farfán cleverly and coolly finished; 1-2. FC Utrecht did not throw in the towel, but PSV comfortably held on to their slender lead. They will be back in business next Saturday, when they take Heracles Almelo in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium.
