For the third time in a row AZ did not succeed in winning a league game at home. The team of coach Louis van Gaal drew 1-1 with FC Groningen and Vitesse, respectively, and they suffered a 2-3 defeat against FC Utrecht on Sunday afternoon. FC Utrecht deserved the win. AZ were trailing 0-3 at half time and they needed an own goal by FC Utrecht defender Van Steensel to get back in the game. Van Steensel had already opened the scoring on only three minutes from a header. Former PSV winger Adil Ramzi, who is on loan with FC Utrecht from AZ, doubled the advantage on the half hour mark and Robin Nelisse made it three on 34 minutes, when he converted from the spot kick. When AZ had reduced the deficit from Van Steensel own goal, AZ piled up the pressure. It paid off when substitute Koevermans tapped home a cross Sektoui, who had also been brought on as a substitute. When the score line was 2-3 FC Utrecht earned some great opportunities and AZ defenders cleared the ball from the line on two occasions. FC Utrecht head coach Foeke Booy and his assistant John van Loen guided their side to a deserved victory. At the same time Feyenoord played hosts in the Rotterdam Kuip to fellow townsmen Sparta. Feyenoord head coach Erwin Koeman saw his team coast to an emphatic 4-0 win in the derby. Hofs scored a first half brace and after the break Kuyt and Boussaboun found the net. The gap between leaders PSV and Feyenoord remains three points, but PSV now have an eight point cushion over AZ.PSV travel to AZ next Sunday afternoon and Feyenoord will be on the road to FC Groningen.
