Olympique Lyon are hardly ever beaten and at home a defeat is certainly a rare event. But Stade Rennes pulled off a shock result last Saturday night. The team, who occupy a safe, mid-table position, emphatically beat leaders Lyon 1-4 in the Stade de Gerland. The Nigerian forward John Utaka scored three goals. John UtakaThe visitors were 0-2 on top on half an hour, thanks to goals scored by Utaka and Gourcuff. Juninho, who found the net in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium earlier this week, pulled one back in the first period. But it was not the prelude to yet another home win. Rennes were far from inferior and Utaka proved to be a prolific finisher by scoring a second half brace. Bordeaux, who drew 3-3 with FC Metz, still trail six points and have played one game more. Auxerre enjoyed a 2-0 over Toulouse. Akale and Kahlenberg had their names on the score sheet.
