Fred Rutten and René Eijkelkamp have announced at a press conference that they will be the new coaches of FC Twente next season. As Guus Hiddink had already indicated that he would leave PSV at the end of the current season and as it has been announced today that his assistants Rutten en Eijkelkamp will make a move to Enschede, PSV will have to appoint a completely new technical staff before the start of the next campaign. PSV head coach Hiddink has not revealed where he is going to ply his trade next year and Rutten as well as Eijkelkamp have completed three year deals. Rutten will be head coach of FC Twente. He will also take responsibility for the complete technical set up at FC Twente with Eijkelkamp as his assistant. Fred Rutten moved from FC Twente to Eindhoven as Head of the Youth Academy at the start of the 2001-2002 season. Rutten, who is 43 years of age now, had been assistant coach at FC Twente for six seasons and head coach for two seasons before he joined PSV. After he had been with PSV for one year, Hiddink added him and Erwin Koeman to the technical staff. "I spent five wonderful years with PSV", was Rutten’s first reaction. "I have gained of experience both at home and in Europe. But now the time has come for a new challenge.” When Erwin Koeman joined RKC Waalwijk PSV appointed René Eijkelkamp as assistant coach at the start of the 2004-2005 season. Eijkelkamp had been as assistant coach at FC Twente from 1999 until 2002. So now both Rutten and Eijkelkamp will return to their former club.
