When the PSV squad, technical staff and officials had entered the town hall, mayor Alexander Sakkers made a speech to honour Guus Hiddink. The PSV head coach was conferred the freedom of the town of Eindhoven. Guus Hiddink acted as ringmaster and he called up the players, one for one, after captain had first shown the championship shield to the fans.When he was asked on his future, he jokingly replied: “When I just take a look at the crowd. I think the near future looks wonderful!” The players lifted the championship shield, sang songs, danced to the music and thoroughly enjoyed the festivities to celebrate the nineteenth title. Bunches of flowers were trampled and both the players and the crowd in the square, delirious with joy, had a wonderful time.
