Mark van Bommel has clinched his first Spanish Primera Division title as player in the service of FC Barcelona. The midfielder can lift another trophy in Paris on 17 May, if his side succeed in winning the UEFA Champions League. FC Barcelona played away against Celta de Vigo. At half time news was announced in the dressing room that FC Barcelona would be crowned Spanish champions, as nearest rivals Valencia had been beaten 2-1 at Mallorca. That game had been kicked off one hour earlier and the final score implied that the Catalans had taken an unassailable lead. Barcelona eventually proved to be worthy champions, after they enjoyed a 0-1 win over Celta de Vigo, thanks to a goal scored by the Cameroon international Etoo. Van Bommel was given a place in the starting line up and was taken off on the hour mark.
