Sevilla FC deservedly won the UEFA Cup by seeing off Middlesbrough 4-0 in an entertaining final in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium, where both sets of fans created a tremendous atmosphere. Enzo Maresca Luis Fabiano scored the opening goal on 26 minutes with a glancing header. It was a well-deserved victory as Sevilla FC showed more tactical discipline and technical skills. The team, coached by Juande Ramos, omitted to wrap up things in the first period of the final. Middlesbrough put in a spirited performance and piled up the pressure after the break. Maresca made sure of victory, though, in the final 12 minutes. Middlesbrough goalkeeper Schwarzer saved a Kanoute effort, but the Italian in Spanish service pounced on the rebound and tapped in from close range. Six minutes later Maresca, again, delivered a low shot from 20 yards that went past Schwarzer and Kanoute even added a fourth goal two minutes from final time. And so Sevilla FC ecstatically celebrated their first European trophy and are worthy successors of CSKA Moscow, who beat Sporting Lisbon in last years UEFA Cup final.
