PSV have signed Ecuadorian Edison Vicente Mendez on a one-year loan from LDU Quito. Ronald Koeman announced at the weekly media briefing that 27-year-old Mendez will strengthen his midfield options. "He underwent a medical yesterday and has now returned to Ecuador to settle his affairs. He is set to be back at the start of next week and he will have obtained a work permit by the end of next week. Mendez has the ability to shuttle from box to box throughout the 90 minutes, but he can also be played on the flanks. He has been signed to fill the void we feel we have in midfield. He is a quality player that can make the rapid switch from defence to attack and may be the missing link. We have completed a one-year loan deal", said PSV head coach Koeman, who also describes Mendes as an attack-minded midfielder. Mendez, born in Ibarra on 16 March 1979, is an experienced midfielder. He has won 68 caps for Ecuador so far, scoring ten goals. He made appearances fro Ecuador both at the World Cup 2002 and the World Cup 2006.Mendez began his club career in 1995 with Deportivo Quito, where he spent seven seasons, before El Nacional acquired his services in 2003. The following year, he moved to Mexico and joined LDU Quito in 2005.
