A connection between PSV and the World Cup futsal (indoor soccer) in Taiwan seems to be far-fetched, but is conspicuously present all the same: he is American, 1.78 meter tall, weighs about 73 kilo and answers to the name Jamar Beasley.The elder brother of DaMarcus Beasley is a player of the national futsal team of the USA. The 23-year-old midfielder is active in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MLIS) and makes appearances for the Kansas City Comets.Jamar Beasley started his professional football career in 1998. At the age of sixteen he was the youngest player ever in the Major League Soccer (MLS). He was in the service of New England Revolution for three seasons and he was with Chicago Fire for one season, when he made a move to Europe, where he joined the Italian Series C club Puteolana. In 1999 he was called up for the national American team under 20 for the World Cup in Nigeria. At the start of last season he became an indoor soccer player and he was successful from scratch. In his first season in the hall he played all 36 games for the Comets, in which he scored 31 goals and had fifteen assists. He was voted the Most Valuable Player.He made his debut for the national American futsal team against Honduras on 18 May 2004. The national team of the USA participates in the World Cup in Taiwan at the moment. Jamar Beasley and his team mates lost their first two games in the second group stage against, respectively, Argentina (2-1) and Ukraine (3-1) and cannot reach the semi-finals any more. On 1 December the USA will play the last group game against Brazil, who have already qualified for the semi-finals.DaMarcus Beasley said this morning that it is a shame he cannot watch Eurosport, who broadcast this tournament, in Eindhoven. "But I’ve been told he does fine. And don’t forget he started playing futsal not that long ago. I think it’s great he has been called up for the squad to take part in the World Cup and I’m really proud of my brother. You need lots of technical skills to perform at such a high level", beamed DaMarcus with pride.
