<L CODE="C01">John de Jong</L> has not joined the PSV squad for the trip to London today. The midfielder has recovered to full fitness, but is not eligible for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal. John de Jong has not been registered on the UEFA Champions League A list and is consequently not eligible to play. Clubs can register a maximum of 25 players in their A list on 31 August, who are eligible to play UEFA Champions League games.“As John de Jong was injured at that time, we decided to register other players on the list”, explained PSV sporting manager Stan Valckx. “We were allowed to register three new players in January. According to UEFA regulations, we had to register a player that has been trained by PSV’s Youth Academy and we decided to select Dirk Marcellis, after Ismail Aissati had completed a loan deal with FC Twente. New signing Xiang Sun was also added to the list and we allocated the remaining place to a striker, accidentally overlooking John de Jong. It should not have happened. It’s a setback, for John and for PSV as well!” A seventeen-man squad will now fly to London.
