Tonny Bruins Slot claimed after this afternoon’s draw that the Champions League knockout stages are different from group stages. “That’s why I think we are not without prospects. We should see things in perspective. They are an in-form team right now, but will they maintain their good form when we meet them in a number of weeks’ time?”, said the assistant coach. Bruins Slot obviously knows Liverpool pretty well, following two group stage legs “We played them in the group stages and they beat us, but we have not been outclassed form start to finish, so I think we stand a chance. And the knockout stages are different from the group stages.” When Koeman and his assistant Bruins Slot were at the helm at Benfica, they led Benfica to victory over Liverpool in last season's quarter-finals.
Midfielder Timmy Simons admitted he had rather drawn another club “And it would have made a change for the fans to meet another club in another stadium as well. You want to go somewhere else. Things could be worse, though, but it’s a shame all the same. But we will just have to accept it. You can’t always get what you want. There are no easy games. I think all teams know each other well at this stage of the campaign”, said Simons following Friday's Champions League draw in Athens.
