Romário has taken his career tally to 998 goals after scoring his third hat-trick of the year. Last night the former PSV striker scored three goals in a crazy 20-minute spell, as Vasco da Gama beat Boavista 6-2 in the Rio de Janeiro state championship. Romário needs to score just two more goals to reach his landmark career tally of 1000 goals.
Romário de Souza Faria, who, just like Willy van der Kuylen, scored five league goals at home against Ajax, found the net three times after the break, with a header after 63 minutes, a penalty after 70 minutes and a left-foot shot after 82 minutes. He is brimming with confidence, having netted eleven goals in seven games. “A few years ago, everybody thought my career was finished. This is my response. I am going to be the second Brazilian player to reach this milestone”, Romário said after the game. Wednesday could be a big day for Romario, as Vasco play Brasiliense and he will soon be offered another opportunity to reach his target when Vasco meet Flamengo, one of Romário’s former clubs at the famous Maracanã Stadium.
