There was actually only one topic of conversation on the day ahead of PSV’s clash with N.E.C.: which players will be available for the away clash with N.E.C.? <L CODE="C01">Ibrahim Afellay</L> is most likely ruled out of Saturday’s game, while <L CODE="C02">Jefferson Farfán</L> and <L CODE="C03">Arouna Koné</L> could return to PSV’s starting line-up, if they pass late fitness tests. Jan Wouters conducted the weekly media briefing.
Wouters conducted the weekly media briefing, as head Ronald Koeman was consulting the medical staff after training, inquiring after the physical condition of some of his players. “We will see which players will be available”, explained Wouters. “The game against N.E.C. comes too early for Afellay, though, and we’ll have to wait and see if some other players, including <L CODE="C04">Edison Mendez</L>, are fit enough to start.” Having Jefferson Farfán and Arouna Koné back, will be a tremendous boost for PSV. “It’s very important our players will be match fit. With only four games remaining, things don’t look as bad as some people suggest. We’ll have to work really hard, though, to maintain our three-point lead at the Eredivisie summit.”
Wouters announced that defender Alex will return to Eindhoven next. “He has undergone an MRI scanning in Brazil and will be back next week. The doctor and the PSV medical staff are in close consultation. If Alex returns to full fitness, he may be able to start the remaining crucial games of the 2006-2007 campaign.
