PSV comfortably coasted to a 5-1 win in a friendly over FC Eindhoven on Friday afternoon. Ronald Koeman’s team had nothing to fear from their fellow townsmen during the low-tempo Light Town Derby. Cocu opened the scoring, after which Koné netted a flawless first-half hat trick, while Van Boekel completed the rout after the break.
PSV fielded a representative side in spite of the absence of some first-team regulars. Phillip Cocu, Timmy Simons, Patrick Kluivert and Arouna Koné were included in PSV’s starting line-up, together with John de Jong and Michael Reiziger. The defender made a return to the starting eleven for the first time since he sustained an injury during the Eredivisie game with Roda JC last January. Rens van Eijden partnered Eric Addo at the heart of defence. They were hardly tested, as PSV outclassed FC Eindhoven. Stojanovic had one shot on target for the hosts, while Cocu opened the scoring for PSV on 12 minutes. Koné then scored a flawless hat trick, on 14, 19 and 37 minutes, as PSV took a 4-0 lead at half time.
After having brought on goalkeeper Ruud Boffin for Oscar Moens, PSV’s head coach Ronald Koeman made four more substitutions. Giel Neervoort, who was handed a debut in the first team, came on for Michael Reiziger; Bart van Berlo took over from Dirk Marcellis; Bilal El Yacoubi left the bench to replace Patrick Kluivert while Arouna Koné made way for Jelle Schijvenaars. Stojanovic and Henny Noyen earned chances for Eindhoven, but PSV found the net. De Jong delivered the perfect cross and Rob van Boekel, who had been brought on for Väyrynen, slotted home the fifth goal of the afternoon. On the hour mark FC Eindhoven pulled one back. Ruud Boffin failed to control a shot and Serhat Koc tapped home the rebound from close range: 1-5. The game had obviously been killed off a long time ago. PSV were satisfied and with time ticking away FC Eindhoven moved forward without being able to score any more goals.
