PSV have lost the Otten Cup tournament final on penalties, just like they did last year. PSV drew 0-0 with Internacional from Brazil and a penalty shoot-out was needed to get a winner. PSV striker Jonathan Reis, who scored three goals, was named best forward of the tournament. It’s the second year in a row PSV loses on penalties.
Shoot out
PSV reached the final after knocking out Feyenoord on penalties in the semi-finals. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Reis finding the net for PSV. Internacional saw off Zambia in the other semi-final. The two teams did not put in a sparkling performance in the final. There were lots of inaccurate passes and neither team could make its mark. Internacional were reduced to ten men in the closing stages, but the deadlock was not broken. It did not take a long time before the winner of the penalty shoot out was announced.
Reis
Hikspoors missed, while Reis superbly curled home his spot kick in Panenka fashion. Fagner just managed to convert his penalty, but Voss missed and Achenteh sent his effort agianst the crossbar. Internacional succeeded in converting four spot kicks and were crowned winners of the 61st edition of the Otten Cup tournament. PSV failed to lift the Cup, but deserve credit for their positive attitude.
