On Thursday morning PSV took off for Moscow to compete in the Russian Railways Cup, a prestigious tournament with PSV, AC Milan, Real Madrid and hosts Lokomotiv Moscow as participants. The squad, coaching staff and officials took off for Moscow from Brussels Airport at about half past ten this morning.
The 'RZD Cup', the Russian Railways Cup, is a tournament held from 3 to 5 August in honour of the Russian railways who celebrate their 170th anniversary. It is the first time that the tournament will be held as a great present for the workers of this company and a spokesman for the Board of Directors has already expressed the wish to make it an annual event.
Alongside hosts Lokomotiv Moscow, who won the Russian Cup last season and are currently seventh in the Russia league, PSV, Champions League winners AC Milan and Spanish champions Real Madrid, with leading scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy and their new manager Bernd Schuster, will take part in the tournament.
A press conference, where all head coaches and chairmen of the participating teams will be present, will be conducted on Friday at 12:00 local time. General Manager Jan Reker and Commercial Manager Marcel van den Bunder represent PSV in Moscow, together with PSV's Football Director Stan Valckx. AC Milan and PSV kick off the tournament at the 30,000 seater Lokomotiv Central Stadium on Friday night at 18: 30 kick off, following the opening ceremony. The winner faces the winner of the Lokomotiv-Real tie in Sunday's final. PSV.nl and PSV TV are in Moscow and will extensively cover the tournament. The plane is set to land in Moscow at about four o'clock in the afternoon. PSV will also train a few times in the Russian capital. On Sunday 12 August, defending champions PSV will meet Cup winners Ajax in the Johan Cruyff Super Cup, the traditional curtain raiser to the start of the new season, with the Johan Cruyff Shield at stake.
