AC Milan have earned the third place in the Russian Railways Cup tournament. Hosts Lokomotiv Moscow drew 3-3 with the Italian giants, so a penalty shoot-out was needed to get a result. The AC Milan players converted their spot kicks, while Lokomotiv had one penalty saved. PSV and Real Madrid will meet later this night to decide which team will win the Cup on the national holiday dedicated to the Russian railway labourer.
The Russians started ferociously against reigning UEFA Champions League holders, who had taken their feet off the pedal in the opening stages. AC Milan, fielding the likes of Cafú, Kaká and captain Gattuso, were soon a goal down, when the Croat Simic netted an unfortunate own goal. Five minutes later Kaká leveled the score from close range, but soon afterwards Ivanovich scored a superb goal, putting his side 2-1 on top. Soon after the break Odenwingie extended the hosts' lead; 3-1. Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo were brought on as substitutes in the second half, but former Roda JC goalkeeper Kalac had by then limped off the pitch, after picking up an injury. Dida left the bench to replace him between the posts. Milan piled up the pressure in the closing stages and managed to snatch a draw after all. Seedorf struck a penalty in the 87th minute and Brocchi cancelled out the deficit in stoppage time. AC Milan proved to be better at taking penalties, grabbing the third place at the tournament. Real Madrid and PSV kick off the final at 20:30 local time.
