PSV midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has been called up to the Netherlands squad for the friendly away against Switzerland at the Stade de Genève next Wednesday night. Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is included in the squad for the first time since the 2006 World Cup after making his peace with coach Marco van Basten and Arsenal forward Robin van Persie also returns to the squad after recovering from a foot injury.
A twenty-man squad will report for training on Monday, ahead of Wednesday night's friendly against the Swiss national team. Afellay is the only PSV player in the current squad, but quite a few former PSV players have also received a call-up. Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma, Real Madrid leading scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy and Celtic frontman Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink , who have all made appearances in PSV colours, have been included in Van Basten's squad. Blackburn Rovers defender Andr Ooijer , who was selected for the provisional squad, has been dropped from the final 20-man squad.
PSV youngster Ismail Aissati has been called up to the Netherlands Under-21 squad for a 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying game against Macedonia in Skopje on Wednesday 22 August.
